Images

What is the so called Image ?

An Image is the operating system for the DBox2.

The two main types of Images are Enigma and Neutrino.

This guide is only based on Neutrino Images.

There are many Images floating around but this guide will not explain or talk about any illegal Images.

Legal Images are Yady, DietmarW or JTG Images.

These Images would be then called for example DietmarW Neutrino or DietmarW Enigma.

These Images replace the original Betanova Software and are all based on a Linux Kernel. Enigma Developement has nearly ceased but Neutrino Images for the DBox are still improved with new Features.

Both of above mentioned Imagestypes are open source but they come without any copyrighted files so you will need to extract your original drivers from your Betanova Software first.

An image will come either as a 1 chip (1xI) image or 2 chip (2xI) image.

You can ONLY use a 1 chip image on a 1 chip DBox2 and you can ONLY use a 2 chip image on a 2 chip DBox2.

Nokia & Philips are always 2x Chip Boxes but Sagems can be 1x Chip.

Try to look trough the Top of your Box near the Tuner if you can see either AMD or Intel.

Photos of the chips are here.

If you flash the wrong Image to your Box you will get KEIN SYSTEM and you will need to read here.

Where can I get an image from?

There are no links in this guide that would enable you the free reception of Pay TV.

You can download basic 1x neutrino or 2x neutrino or 1x enigma or 2x enigma.

My Dbox is working perfect now and I feel confident to play around. What should I do next?

A basic backup could just be your services.xml and your bouquets.xml (var/tuxbox/config/zapit) and in extreme cases your cablex.xml/satellites.xml and your scan.conf (var/tuxbox/config)

It is a good idea to make a complete backup of your image that includes all changes and settings that you have done up so far in case things go wrong.

This is how:

Press the D-Box Key

Choose Service

Choose Software Update

Choose Expert Mode

Choose Read Single Partition without Bootloader

A copy of your image gets written into the /tmp folder on the DBox2.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT DISCONNECT POWER AS CONTENTS OF /TMP GET LOST !!!

You can then connect via your FTP Program and save it to your PC.

The latest Images featuring the YWeb have this function already included.

How can I flash an Image without using the IFA or Dbox Boot Manager?

Once you have a working Image installed on your DBox you will not need Ifa or Dbox Boot Manager to install or update your Image. You can either use a FTP Client to transfer the Image or in newer Images transfer an Update via the YWebinterface or even use the Expert Feature on the Dbox to Update from the Dbox trough a Server on the Internet.

Very Important is that after each flashing of a new Image you will need to change your Network Settings again to suit your Network and also upload your services and bouquets (ucodes and Avia) and in case of a satellite Image also your scan.conf and restart the Box after that to reload this settings.

I will only describe the FTP Method:

Connect via your FTP Program to your box and copy the image to the main /tmp folder.

Then on DBox2:

Press the D-Box Key

Choose Service

Choose Software Update

Choose Expert Mode

Choose Write Single Partition without Bootloader.

The copy of your Image can be selected via the remote and then just press OK and after that the red Button to confirm.

The latest Images featuring the YWeb have this function already included.
